The cultivation of the dwarf peas of "Colli di Lonigo" better known in the area as the pea of Monticello or the Bianchetto of Monticello, took off in the hilly village of Monticello di Lonigo right after the war. Initially, the product was sold in the country in Lonigo or in the neighbouring markets of Villa del Ferro and Alonte until December 3, 1962, when the cooperative ACLI came to life, which initiated the market of Monticello. The peak of production was reached in the decade from 1963 to 1973, when in high season 50 to 70 tons of product would be sold daily.
Over the years and with the improved economic conditions the cultivation of dwarf peas was becoming more and more reduced, so that today very few producers exist and now the plant finds room only in family gardens.
